Is Your Toddler having appropriate Nutrition?

Do you baffle up when your child gets cranky while eating food. Do you provide him the appropriate amount of nutrition in his diet. Let’s find out answers.

The best gift for a mother can be nothing less than when she sees her child growing healthy and active and the child enjoys his food with great enthusiasm. One of the biggest reason that the child doesn’t enjoys food is the lack of nutrition in his diet.

One most important thing that I have come across is that most of the mothers out there puzzle themselves is with the amount of food the child should have. Do you also think that the size of the baby is small so he will have less amount of food as compared to an adult. Is that so? Parents please understand that the baby has his own independent human system, so why will he require less amount of food. He will also require the greater amount of micro and macro nutrients in the diet as compared to an adult human system.

The greater attention should be given to the child’s needs and requirements as they are growing and developing quickly and it’s an important time to make sure they are eating well to get all the nutrients they need as well as getting into the habit of eating a healthy, varied diet.

Toddlers ( 1-3 years ) need a diet made up of foods  from the four main food groups, in the right balance and in portion sizes just right for them.

  • STARCHY FOODS:  starchy foods give them energy that fuels children’s metabolism, supports growth, keeps their brain and nervous system working and maintains overall health. So they require it atleast 5 times a day.
  • FRUIT & VEGETABLES : it is very important to include good soluble fibres and micro nutrients in their diet so that they don’t form colic in there system which is a common problem seen in every child. This should be encluded atleast 5 times in a day.
  • DAIRY FOODS : dairy foods are rich in essential fatty acids, calcicum, magnesium, helping the bones and teeth to grow. The child should indulge dairy foods atlest 3 times a day.
  • PROTEIN FOODS: They are extremely important to include these foods as they are the building block of life. The child should take protein atleast 3 times a day ( if vegetarian  and 2 times if he is non vegetarian )

Children under 5 should have a daily supplement of vitamins A, C and D. Fats and oils contain essential nutrients and small amounts can be included in toddlers diets. Use butter and spreads sparingly and use small amounts of oil in cooking.

Taking these things into mind you will find that the child is growing in a healthy way. If you don’t take care now these children may develop nutrient deficiencies which you will find small at this age but the problem keeps on piling up  until it becomes a disease.
